“Most people have no idea of the giant capacity we can immediately command when we focus all of our resources on mastering a single area of our lives.” – Tony Robbins
Online Learning: Things that can go wrong because of too many options
Today, there is fascination towards learning that comes at ease. It can be online education/e-Learning under which one can pursue an education at the comfort of his or her home. With so much free content on the web, learners often think that acquiring knowledge will be an easy process. However, here goes a saying of no free lunch. To make learning really rewarding, one perhaps needs to ensure that he or she can stay focused on one theme for an extended period of time.
Learners are often swayed by new courses. While on the web, there is a tendency to move from one website to another. Many end up registering for numerous courses/books with little followup. There is a lack of commitment to stick with one goal at a time.
Practice at some point becomes monotonous. But single-handed devotion requires practice at a time when there is a temptation to quit and do something new. Athletes for sure know that big part of their performance rests on practice. There is perhaps no short cut to it. Despite tilt towards so-called multitasking, today’s knowledge- and information-intense products require specialized inputs which can be effectively delivered after acquiring expertise in one area of choice.
As an adult learner, we need to make sure that we do not use plea of multitasking to cover up our inability to stick with one commitment. Rehearsal of one quality script instead of ever searching for newer scripts makes many salespeople realize where they initially made an error!
No thin line of difference between single-handed focus and multitasking
For today’s professionals under most streams, it is not practical to set smartphone to Do Not Disturb option say for 8 hours because of being involved in say a writing project. Even while writing, a writer needs to surf from one website to another for ideas. So, there is no thin line of difference between single-handed focus or distraction-free mode and multitasking.
Just like multitasking should not be a coverup for our inability to stick with one goal, similarly, distraction-free not coverup of inability to move fast in a distracting environment. For marketers, this distraction is their bread and butter. They need to handle calls over their smartphones while surfing on a desktop/laptop in the office, attending colleagues and clients simultaneously. In other words, a balance needs to be made between single-handed focus and multitasking.
For those involved in web development and internet marketing, one of the challenges is to serve a sizeable section that has short attention span because of distractions. Make them read a long article without headings, bullets, and variation in color, and they will abandon. If the width of text in a paragraph is increased beyond a point, it is a known fact that readers find it difficult to move eyes as the line changes.
Multi-page form for increasing conversions
A large form divided into multiple pages with progress bar makes appear the same less overwhelming with enhanced user experience. While the fields remain the same, a long form is divided into number of sections with each section forming a page.
In the above video, job application form is divided into three pages or sections by placing Page Break function twice into a pre-built WPForms job application template.
